CS 1410 - Summer 2013

An annual tradition for my blog is to make a post for the online course I am teaching at ASU, so here it is. Just like last year, this year's post will be short and sweet since life is so busy at the moment!  Welcome CS 1410 students.  I expect you to enjoy this class and learn some cool stuff along the way without really realizing how much you are learning :)

Life with computing continues to develop at an ever quickening pace.  For most of you, life has always had the internet, and you are used to doing multiple things at once often with the aid of some sort of computing device.  The goal of this course is to give you a glimpse into several different facets of computing and provide you the opportunity to experiment with new technologies or look at old technologies in new ways.  So, let's get started and here is a fun video from my farm's YouTube channel:

Cute kids on your farm!

I am really excited about this course, and I am ready to learn more about computers and their applications!
I was also scrolling down on your blog and noticed you were a beekeeper!

I am a beekeeper myself and just split all three of my hives at the end of April. Being a beekeeper is quite an adventure and I hope to continue it throughout my lifetime! Can't wait to here some of your stories.

Im very excited about taking this class. I love working with all forms of technology and Im always excited to learn new things about it.

I rock climb year round and slalom ski during the summer while I work at a summer camp on the coast. I love to shoot and edit video. You will probably see some skiing videos show up on my blogspot as the weeks progress.

I cannot wait see what all there is to learn while in this class! It sounds like it will be very fun and informational.

Your children look like they are having a blast! I've grown up with a farming background and have owned chickens, so I really enjoyed reading your blog.

I loved the video!! I remember doing that as a kid at my Aunts Christmas tree farm, it was super fun! They looked like they were having a blast!! I am super excited about this class, especially since my brother is a computer science major, so maybe I will be able to impress him somehow by the end of the course!

As I was looking through your blog, I was very surprised at how many chickens you have. My family recently bought 44 acres of land out in the country. We are hoping to raise a few chickens and have some goats. It looks like you have several different breeds. I was wondering what is your favorite breed?

I am looking forward to reading more things on your blog and learning more about computers throughout this course.

I loved the video! This is the first class that I have taken in which blogging was used as an example and tool through which to learn- it is very refreshing and I am so excited to see what more this semester will have in store! I think using blogs in this class will be a great way to learn about each other on a more personal level, which is sometimes not experienced in larger classes. I look forward to this semester and getting to know everyone!

On another note, I can't believe how little all the children are! They are so cute! It looks like quite the adventure! :)

I am very excited about this course. I personally am not very tech savy. I am hoping to learn more about how to work things on the internet and connect them to my everyday life. I am more and more surprised by all that a computer can do and it never seases to amaze me.

I was looking thorugh your profile and was pleased to see that you live on a farm type setting. I, myself grew up on a farm and love everything that comes along with farm life. I am very excited to the new things that this class is going to introduce me to!

Also, I was reading through your blog a little more and found the sections on "Girls Work".

I completely agree with you! My father has always made me learn things such as growing a garden, helping cut wood, hunting and other things. He always told me that i needed to know these things so that me and my brother could take care of ourselves if something were to ever happen to him! I didnt exactly enjoy these things at the time but now i am gratful I can do these things if needed.

I enjoy electronics and have been the computer wiz in my family since we got our first one many years, with just the basic knowledge of computers I have taught myself through trial and error. I look forward to learning new things about the technology I already use on a daily basis!

I have never known anyone in my life that has kept bee's, - I know I'm primitive- but it sounds like an amazing hobby. The video of your son on the tree was very funny as well! Reading your blog about visiting Kurdistan was very interesting, especially since I have family from Lebanon - which is right below Kurdistan. I honestly know nothing about blogging, so creating my own will be interesting.

Thank you for the very interesting blog professor, I really enjoyed it. I'm excited to learn more about the computer world. I hope your children and your beautiful wife are doing well!

It's so cool that you have a farm! I'm actually really excited to take this class and to become more acquainted with computer systems. Computers can be my worst enemies some times so I'm ready to really understand how to work with them!

I think the video is fabulous! Children always make me smile, I suppose that's why I enjoy being a camp counselor so much, and want to be an elementary school teacher. I really look forward to learning lots of new things in this class!
